Today, the Ontario Liberal Party launched a 60-second ad detailing how Ontario is turning the corner out of the recession towards a brighter future. Narrated by Premier Dalton McGuinty, the ad salutes all Ontarians and the way Ontario works together.

Here’s what you need to know:

Our great province is back on track because of our people – because no one works harder and contributes more than Ontarians and their families.

This is why together we are now emerging from this global recession even stronger than before:

- Over 293,000 new jobs have been created and Ontario has been internationally recognized as the top place in North America at creating jobs from international investment.

- Our schools have turned the corner and are now internationally recognized as among the top ten in the world.

- Our hospitals are finally turning the corner and Ontario now has lowest surgical wait times in Canada; 94% of Ontarians have a family doctor and more than 11,500 new nurses are on the job.

We’ve done all of this, working together, for a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.

The PCs have admitted they have no plan to govern. They just have a slick book containing 229 reckless, divisive, and angry strategies.

These add up to more than $10 billion in cuts to jobs, schools, and hospitals – cuts that would derail our fragile recovery and take Ontario off track. And as their voting record demonstrates, the NDP would rather stand with the PCs than help Ontario’s families, seniors and most vulnerable.

Together with Dalton McGuinty and the Ontario Liberals, we’ll help each other up when we get knocked down, work through adversity and never give up – just to make this great province even better. It’s the Ontario Way.

Ottawa – The Liberal Party of Canada is launching new radio ads to remind Canadians that their tax dollars are being wasted by the Harper government on an unprecedented scale – $1.1 billion and counting – on 72 hours of G8/G20 meetings that have turned out to be little more than a photo-op for Stephen Harper.

“Because of poor planning and pork-barrel politics, Stephen Harper is wasting Canadians’ money on a fake lake, a dry-docked steamship, gazebos, public toilets and sidewalks that are nowhere near the G8 site – alongside an astronomical $900-million security bill,” said Liberal Public Safety Critic Mark Holland.

“These excesses have shown Canadians in a real way just how bad the Conservatives are at managing their tax dollars, having instead saddled us with out-of-control deficits. At a time when world leaders are preaching restraint, this G8/G20 photo-op is an ego trip for Stephen Harper that Canadians simply can’t afford.”

“Canadians now know that the security costs are way out of line with other summit security spending, and could have been minimized with proper planning,” said Mr. Holland. “Instead, Minister Tony Clement wanted to divert funding from the G8/G20 budget to pork-barrel projects in his riding that are nowhere near the actual summit location, leaving the decision to move the G20 to the very last minute and at enormous expense.

“It’s scandalous when Canadians are still feeling the effects of the recession and have a $54-billion Conservative deficit to pay down,” concluded Mr. Holland. “It’s even worse considering the Conservatives’ poor record on the real issues that need to be resolved at the G8 and G20: climate change, maternal health, tough bank regulations and mounting deficits.”
