OYL Applauds OSAP Improvements

It’s that time of the year again… the smell of used text books, the anticipation of new roommates, the buzz of frosh week…

Wait for it … OSAP just got easier!

Not only is the McGuinty government providing more assistance to students they are also streamlining the process so that you are filling out fewer forms, standing in shorter lines and accessing your funds faster.

Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities John Milloy is cutting the red tape: “Our government is committed to making postsecondary education accessible on the basis of ability to learn, not ability to pay.  That’s why we continue to invest in student aid and to make it easier for students to get the financial help they need.”

This year students and recent graduates will benefit from:

-More assistance for books, supplies and equipment

-Doubling of the student income exemption

  -No interest period!

  -New graduate scholarships

  -Increased student loan maximums

-More help for married students and students with children

-Introduction of a new, part-time grant

  -More flexible, income-sensitive repayment assistance

-Extension of the current tuition framework that caps tuition increases to

a maximum of 5% per year
